Published Date: 5 April 2023

What is BVOD?

BVOD, or Broadcaster Video On Demand, refers to the video-on-demand services offered by traditional broadcasters. Unlike subscription-based streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, BVOD is free or low-cost and provides access to content from specific broadcasters. This model allows viewers to watch their favorite shows conveniently without having to tune in at a specific time.

Advantages & Disadvantages of BVOD

Advantages of BVOD:

  • Free or low-cost access to a wide range of content
  • Flexibility in viewing options, allowing viewers to watch their favorite shows at their convenience
  • Access to exclusive broadcasts or shows that may not be available on other platforms
  • Targeted advertising opportunities for advertisers to reach specific demographics

Disadvantages of BVOD:

  • Limited availability of premium content that may only be available through subscription-based services
  • Advertising interruptions that can be annoying to viewers
  • Quality and performance issues can vary depending on the platform used and the viewer's internet connection

Advertising is an important component of BVOD services since it allows broadcasters to provide free or low-cost access to their content. BVOD advertising is popular because it allows for targeted advertising to certain audiences. Marketers can target certain demographics such as age, gender, and geography using data obtained from BVOD platforms. As a result, advertising efforts will be more effective, and the return on investment will be higher.
